KINGSVILLE, TEXAS (News Release) - Everyday around the world law enforcement officers pin on their badges, put on the uniform get in their patrol unit, committed to rush towards danger regardless of the risk. They put themselves in harm's way, not thinking of themselves but hoping to return safely to their families.

On May 15th, Peace Officers Memorial Day, Kingsville PD honor fallen heroes not only around the world but their very own. These officers have made the ultimate sacrifice

Sgt. Gene W Christopher, E.O.W. 02/09/1958, was shot and killed with his own service weapon while backing up another officer at a bar. The male subject, after attempts of restraining by several officers, grabbed Sgt. Chirstopher's gun and shot him. Sgt. Christopher was 26 yrs old at the time of death and was survived by his wife and son.

Ptlm. Felix Luna Salinas, E.O.W 05/29/1981, was responding to an alarm call. As they approached an intersection, a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and driven by an intoxicated subject, ran the stop sign. The vehicle collided with the patrol unit hitting it on the driver side of the vehicle. Pltm. Salinas was 29 yrs old at the time of death and was survived by his wife and two sons.

Sr Ptlm. Sherman O Benys, E.O.W 11/04/2021, was responding to a call of domestic violence with reports of shots being fired. As another officer was outside talking to the suspects children, the suspect returned to area again shooting at the family and officer. Ptlm. Benys drove up to assist and was shot by the suspect. Sr Ptlm. Benys was 58 yrs old at the time of his death and was survived by his wife, mother, 2 daughters,1 son and 4 grandchildren.
