CORPUS CHRISTI – (News Release) First responders will participate in a hazardous material drill on Friday, March 4, at the O.N. Stevens Water Treatment Plant at 13101 Leopard Street. The training exercise will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

During the drill, northwest Corpus Christi will notice a green and yellow-colored smoke coming from the plant (between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.) and a significant presence of emergency vehicles. The training will impact traffic, and signs will be placed along Leopard Street to alert motorists for detours.

For safety reasons, residents should avoid the area until the drill is complete.

This is an annual chlorine drill required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the City’s Risk Management Plan. The annual drill was not conducted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Media personnel wishing to cover the drill should arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. After that time, plant access will be restricted to only emergency personnel participating in the exercise.
