CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The Corpus Christi Mayor’s Fourth of July Big Bang Celebration is hosting an essay contest for 5th through 7th graders. Each student submitting an essay will receive four tickets to a Corpus Christi Hooks game.

The winner must attend a City Council meeting in June where he or she will read a portion of the essay, receive recognition, and an award. They will be invited to the Mayor’s VIP Fireworks Viewing Party. The winner will also receive a Kindle Fire HD donated by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Corpus Christi Chapter and will attend a special luncheon with the DAR Chapter.

The second-place winner will receive a membership for two (winner and one parent) to the Texas State Aquarium. The third-place winner will receive a one-year family membership for the Lexington Museum on the Bay.

Below are the essay requirements:

Essay Prompt: Reflecting on the history and deeper meaning of the 4th of July is important. It is also fun to remember the wonderful ways our nation celebrates.

What does the Fourth of July mean to you?

Length Requirements: 600–1,000 words

Cover Page Should Include: Full name, school, grade, teacher’s contact information, student, and parent contact information (including email address, street address and phone number).

Final Essay Due: Friday, June 18, 2021

Essays submitted by email should be in Word or PDF format (preferred) to AliceA@cctexas.com.
