Driver Involved in Deadly Crash Identified

KINGSVILLE (News Release) – The Kingsville Police Department responded to a major accident on September 28th at approximately 3:30 p.m. on S U.S. Highway 77 just north of Corral Avenue. Responding
officers at the scene discovered a man deceased after his truck flipped over and he was ejected from his vehicle. The victim was identified as 46-year-old Jonathan Limas of Weslaco, Texas.

Investigators discovered a trailer located in the median in between N U.S. Highway 77 and S U.S.
Highway 77 that appeared as though it may have been involved in the deadly collision. Officers
have been working to identify the driver who was towing the trailer.

On Wednesday, October 6th, a 26-year-old Hispanic Male from Brownsville, Texas reported to the
Kingsville Police Department and provided a statement.

The investigation into this major accident is ongoing and detectives will present the case to the
District Attorney’s Office for review once it is complete. At this time, no arrests have been made.
The Kingsville Police Department would like to remind drivers that leaving the scene of an accident
involving death or serious injury is a third-degree felony punishable by 2 to 10 years in state
prison.

On Wednesday, October 6th, a 26-year-old Hispanic Male from Brownsville, Texas reported to the Kingsville Police Department along with his attorney and claimed responsibility for the accident. He reported to Accident Investigator Officer Celinda Gonzalez that while towing the trailer northbound with his truck, the trailer got loose after the wheels moved from the concrete to the asphalt. The driver reported the trailer crossed over into the southbound inside lane and collided with Limas’ truck. The trailer landed in the median and was found at the accident scene.

The investigation into this major accident is ongoing and detectives will present the case to the District Attorney’s Office for review once it is complete. At this time, no arrests have been made.
