Corpus Christi City Council Adopts FY 2025 Budget

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – (News Release) At Tuesday’s (9/17/24) regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council adopted the City’s operating and capital budget totaling $1.8 billion for the Fiscal Year 2025, which begins October 1, 2024.

The budget prioritizes funding for essential city services, including police, fire, and residential streets. It also aims to provide employees with fair, competitive wages and affordable healthcare benefits.

This budget reflects the City's continued commitment to providing public services, programs, and infrastructure that enhance the quality of life for Corpus Christi citizens. 

As part of the FY 2025 Budget process, Council Members and City staff hosted seven community input sessions in the five City Council districts, and there were five Council Budget Workshops.  Resident input was instrumental in finalizing the budget. 

The budget includes:

Property Tax Relief

  • Property tax- No rate increase

  • Property tax relief for working families and seniors and eliminates fees

  • City homestead exemption increased from 10% to 20%

  • City over 65/disabled homestead exemption increased from $50,000 to $62,500

Water/Wastewater Rates

  • Monthly water rate decreases of $1.77 for residential customers based on usage of 6,000 gallons of water per month

  • Monthly wastewater rate increase of $4.68 for residential customers based on usage of 5,000 gallons of water per month

  • The average residential customer will only see a $2.91 ($4.68 minus $1.77) net increase for monthly water/wastewater services

Other Services

  • Gas - No proposed rate adjustment

  • Solid Waste - No proposed rate adjustment

The budget also reflects the City’s commitment to public safety and infrastructure improvement with funding for additional equipment and vehicles for the Police and Fire Departments and continued funding for the Streets Rapid Pavement Program.

The City’s fiscal year begins on October 1, 2024, and ends on September 30, 2025.
