CORPUS CHRISTI – (News Release) City Council authorized the purchase of 27 shade structures to be installed at Labonte Park, Lindale, Billish, and Parker Parks. The purchase of the 27 shade structures totals $282,278 to be funded from the General Fund.

The shades structures are part of a park improvement project to provide shade for parkgoers, improved and increased number of shade structures in neighborhoods, niches, and community City parks. The project is driven by public request and is consistent with the 10-year Parks Master Plan community survey.

“Continuing to improve our city parks is a priority for this council,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “The shade structures will beautify parks and will serve to enhance the quality of life for all residents.”

The new shade structures are galvanized steel with a powder coat finish that will provide considerable protection against the elements which surround Labonte Park as well as Billlish Park, which are both located near water.

The shade structures will be placed at the following parks:

  • Labonte Park (20 shade structures)

  • Lindale Park (2 shade structures)

  • Billish Park (2 shade structures)

  • Parker Park (4 shade structures)

The project is anticipated to be completed in October 2022.
