City Approves Firefighter Breathing Apparatus Purchase

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) - Corpus Christi City Council authorized a lease-purchase agreement to replace 140 SCBA’s (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) in the Corpus Christi Fire Department (CCFD) at a cost of $1.1 million dollars.
“Keeping our firefighters safe is my most important priority. Replacing the 140 breathing apparatuses achieves this effort. Our firefighters deserve to have the equipment they need in order to protect our families,” said Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo.
The new SCBA equipment are replacements to outdated SCBA equipment that are at the end of service life. SCBA’s are used by firefighters for respiratory protection when entering areas that have dangerous levels of smoke and hazardous material. This equipment is vital to the mission of firefighting and the ability to enter an immediate danger to life and health atmosphere.
“The approval of this contract shows the commitment the Mayor and City Council have for the protection of our firefighters,” said Corpus Christi Fire Chief Robert Rocha.
