In a ceremony held at the Bishop High School Gymnasium, the Lady Badger Basketball team celebrated their Class 3A UIL playoff run in the 2020-21 season.

The Lady Badgers were given an introduction as the entire roster was welcomed to the floor. Bishop Athletic Director George Luna then introduced Head Coach Sherry Luna to the podium, and she spoke about the season.

Luna said she was proud of what her team was able to accomplish this past year, and she cannot wait to see what they can do in the next year with many players returning.

She spoke about the struggles going through a season with COVID-19 protocols, and the challenges they faced as a team trying to build chemistry in a difficult time.

Regardless of their struggles, the Lady Badgers advanced to the State Semi-Finals in Class 3A for the first time in school history. They only had one loss on their record in the regular season before heading into the playoffs. Their road to success went through Odem in the Bi-District round of postseason; Lyford in the Area round; Aransas Pass in the Regional Quarterfinals; Blanco in the Regional Semi-Finals, and Skidmore-Tynan in the Regional finals. They made their exit after a loss to then-defending State Champions Fairfield.

After Luna concluded speaking, the coaching staff and players were then gifted their UIL playoff medals, as well as their UIL State medals they earned from the season.

The Lady Badgers were then able to cut down the net inside the Bishop gym as a symbol of their season. The ceremony concluded with a video of the team’s season, through their eyes.
