CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — (News Release) Renovation of the locker rooms at the Ben Garza Park Gymnasium, located at 1815 Howard Street, is underway. The existing men’s and women’s locker rooms and restrooms will be renovated to improve structural integrity, plumbing efficiency and water use, and usability and comfort for guests. The gymnasium will close during the renovation and programming will be shifted to the Corpus Christi Gymnasium located at 3202 Cabaniss Pkwy.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming facility improvements, which will enhance the experience for both athletes and patrons utilizing the gymnasium through upgraded amenities,” said Robert Dodd, Director of Parks & Recreation. “This gym is utilized extensively by community members of all ages for activities such as basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, and floor hockey.”

The funding for a majority of the estimated $511,000 cost is provided through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Entitlement Program. The construction contractor is DLF Texas of Corpus Christi. Weather permitting, the project is estimated to be completed in Spring 2025.

The CDBG program, an initiative of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, provides annual grants to cities and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment and expanding economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate-income persons.
