CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi City Council approved an ordinance to accept a grant totaling $94,634 from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) for Corpus Christi Animal Care Services (CCACS).

The funds will be used for critical upgrades, including installing a new split-system air conditioning unit in the cattery and repairing damaged partitions in two of the five kennel buildings. The project is estimated to be completed by the summer of 2025.

“We are proud to receive this generous grant of over $94,000 from the ASPCA, which will allow us to strengthen our animal care services and enhance the resources available for animals in need,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “This funding is a testament to our commitment to ensuring the well-being of all animals in Corpus Christi, and we are truly grateful for the ASPCA’s partnership in helping us create a more compassionate community.”

“The ASPCA grant underscores our ongoing commitment to improving the conditions and welfare of animals in our community,” said Kathleen Chapa, Director of Animal Care Services. “These enhancements will foster a more supportive environment for the animals, aid the staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of animals in their care, and ultimately lead to better adoption outcomes and healthier, happier pets.”
