Arrest Made in Wrong Way Collision

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - (News Release) On Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 10:10pm, officers were dispatched to the 7400 block of IH 37 southbound in reference to a major traffic collision with injuries. CCPD Metrocom received numerous calls about a wrong way driver – a passenger car was driving northbound in the southbound lane of IH 37.

Officers arrived and located a 4-vehicle collision. Officers determined that the wrong way vehicle struck a passenger car in the left lane. The collision caused the wrong way driver’s vehicle to spin around and be struck by another passenger car, then that passenger car was struck by another passenger car.

Three victims in the first vehicle were injured and transported to a local hospital by medics. A 74-year-old female passenger was determined to have serious injuries. There were no injuries reported in the other two vehicles.

The driver of the wrong way vehicle, 22-year-old Kendra Nunez, showed signs of intoxication and was arrested for intoxication assault with a vehicle. She was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance. After she was medically cleared, she was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.
