PREMONT, TEXAS - (News Release) This is a community public safety post to make parents and others aware of a trend the PPD is starting to see.

The use of NO2, or Nitrous Oxide as an inhalant is a dangerous and potentially deadly practice. This goes by a few names such as “balloons”, “chargers”, “nos”, or whippits”.

Using these can cause brain damage, nervous system damage, and cardiovascular complications, headaches, dizziness, anxiety, or loss of consciousness.

The dangers are downplayed and minimized, even by the companies that sell these containers for their use in food preparation. Here is an example-

From the Official website of “Exotic Whip” the canisters Premont Police Department found today-

****“Recreational Use of N2O

As we just mentioned, nitrous oxide has been misused in the last few years, affecting people’s opinions.

Unfortunately, its highly sedative properties are an attraction point to many young enthusiasts, who like to inhale it, getting a feeling of well-being and suave euphoria. Sometimes, even numbness of the body.

Its inhalation can even produce mild hallucinations when taken in big doses.

Is it safe to use in a recreational setting?

It is, while it is not abused. Like any other gas, it can cause second effects while being inhaled.

The greatest danger is that its continued inhalation can lead to hypoxia due to the lack of oxygen supply to the lungs.”****

THIS IS NOT OK, THIS IS DANGEROUS!!

If PPD catch you with NO2 you will be charged.

In the State of Texas:

Class B Misdemeanor: Possession of inhalants with the intent to use them for inhalation is considered a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.

2. Repeat Offenses: If you are convicted of inhalant possession multiple times, the penalties can escalate, and you may face more extended jail sentences and higher fines.

3. Inhalant Sale or Delivery: Selling or delivering inhalants to others, especially minors, can result in felony charges, which carry more severe consequences.

If you are driving, you will be charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

THERE WILL BE ZERO TOLERANCE.

The safety of the community remains the first priority. Parents and community members, please get involved. If you see something, say something!
