65 pounds of marijuana seized by Bishop PD

Bishop Police Department Press Release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, a Bishop Police Officer assigned to the Nueces County District Attorney’s Criminal Interdiction Unit (CIU) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on U.S. Highway 77 within the city limits of Bishop, Texas.

During the traffic stop the Officer developed reasonable suspicion to believe criminal activity was afoot, requested a K-9 unit, and obtained owner’s consent to search the vehicle.

A Robstown Police Department K-9 Unit that is also assigned to the DA’s Criminal Interdiction Unit (CIU) responded to the scene and upon deployment alerted on the vehicle with positive results.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a compartment with several large bundles of contraband concealed inside.

Officer’s later recovered approximately 65 lbs of suspected Marijuana from the compartment discovered within the vehicle.

The Driver was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana and the vehicle will be seized under chapter 59 Asset Forfeiture provisions.
