CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) - The 2021 U.S. Multihull Championship will be held on the Corpus Christi Bay. The regatta (a series of boat races) will be sailed on the Hobie Wave and hosted by the Formula Wave Class, a one-design sailing and racing organization. Registration and practice racing will occur on Monday, November 1, followed by four days of racing, and an awards dinner on Friday, November 5.

Currently, there are 80 sailors registered to compete in this regatta. Competitors will travel from over 25 states and Puerto Rico to attend the largest U.S. Multihull Championship held in the last 20 years. Race organizers have paired with the local Surf Rider Foundation to make this event highly sustainable through efforts to reduce single-use plastic and daily beach clean ups.

The Hobie Wave is a 13-foot catamaran which is growing in popularity as a racing boat across the U.S. and is now sailed at many regattas across the country. In fact, world champions from numerous classes, Olympic medalists and several national champions from the multihull ranks have been featured in this national competition.

The public is invited to watch the races for free that will be sailed in the bay near McGee Beach. The best spots for viewing the regatta will be from McGee Beach and Cole Park. The catamarans will launch from the beach at about 10:00 a.m. each day and return after racing each day between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. There will be four races each day starting at 11:00 a.m. with an hour duration for each race.
